Broadway star, internationally known singer and close friend of the Whiting Family, Carol Woods has just become the first person to ever record two fantastic Richard A. Whiting songs!

“A Day Away From Town” the first new song in more than 75 years by the composing duo of Whiting & Kahn (and now Arnold). Hubert "Tex" Arnold, Margaret Whiting's long-time musical director, took on the arduous task of completing the song and arranging it for Carol. As was typical of songs of the day, the song included the oft overlooked verse. Carol recorded two versions, one with, and one without the verse. Upon hearing this song, you are sure to believe it's already a standard.

The second song, “Sittin’ On the Curbstone Blues” was an unrecorded gem that was recently discovered in the Whiting family archives, having been written by Richard A. Whiting, Haven Gillespie and Seymour Simons. Carol's dramatic, fun, yet bluesy interpretation is perfect to introduce this new, old song.

Award winning cabaret singer, Colleen McHugh gives two famous standards of Richard A. Whiting's catalog modern takes.

Having sold millions of copies in the jazz era, "Japanese Sandman" was recorded by numerous artists and included in several films. Most recently the song could be heard on the soundtrack of HBO's Boardwalk Empire. Colleen brings her cool refrain to this standard making it feel incredibly current.

"Ukulele Lady" was another hit from the jazz-era and one of the most popular songs written by the duo of Richard A. Whiting and Gus Kahn. Produced by Larry Kerchner, Colleen's recording stays true to the intent of the original by employing just ukulele, bass and violin. You'll agree that Colleen's interpretation is perfect for this standard.
